St. Charles Garage, 1st Ave. at 60 St., New York, 1990

St. Charles Garage Inc. opened at 405 E. 60 St. in 1949. The garage was still there (with its original telephone number TEmpleton 8-9090) in 2001, but the sign disappeared in the late 1990s when a new building replaced the service station. By August 2002, this phone number had changed to 212 838-9092, and by March 2005 the business had moved to 425 W. 59th St.

The sign was first painted by Harry Middleton of the Mack Sign Co. in the late 1940s or early 1950s, and then re-painted in 1968.
