The Pennsylvania Exchange Bank moved to this 20-story building the year it was constructed, 1925. Officers at that time were Allan I. Cole, pres.; Mitchell W. Bush, v-pres.; and Harold H. Walsh, cashier. The sign likely dates to that time.
A photograph in the New York Public Library's Digital Collections, dated 1928, shows a sign for the Pennsylvania Exchange Bank on Varick St. near Vandam St. The sign gives the bank's address: 8th Ave. & 26th St.
The bank expanded with a branch on W. 48th St. in 1947, then changed its name to the Gotham Bank in 1959, and merged with the Federal National Bank of New York in 1963.
